01Understanding the condition

What is a rotator cuff strain?

Shoulder pain can sneak up on you. One day you’re playing catch with your kid; the next, you’re wincing just reaching for a mug in the cabinet. If you’ve felt a deep ache or sharp pain that limits your motion, especially after activity, a rotator cuff strain may be to blame.

The rotator cuff is a group of four muscles and tendons that stabilize the shoulder joint. They keep your shoulder secure while allowing a wide range of motion, overhead, behind your back, and everywhere in between. A strain happens when those muscles or tendons are overstretched or partially torn.

At Cavanaugh Chiropractic in Lafayette, we’ve helped plenty of athletes, weekend warriors, and folks who simply overdid it find relief and restore function after a rotator cuff strain.
