01Understanding the condition

What is disc displacement?

A herniated disc can show up uninvited, from a car crash, a bad lift at the gym, or even just bending down to tie your shoes. One moment you’re fine; the next, you’re battling deep, aching pain or a burning sensation shooting down your arm or leg.

The discs are the shock absorbers between your spinal bones, letting you bend, twist, and move with ease. When one slips or bulges out of place, it can press on nearby structures like the spinal nerves, causing localized pain or radiating discomfort into your limbs.

“Without myelopathy” simply means the herniation hasn’t started affecting the spinal cord itself. That’s actually encouraging, because it means conservative chiropractic care has an excellent opportunity to help. At Cavanaugh Chiropractic in Lafayette, we help patients feel like themselves again.
