01Understanding the condition

What is whiplash?

If you’ve been in a car accident, especially a rear-end collision, and you’re now dealing with neck pain, stiffness, or headaches, you might be experiencing whiplash. It’s one of the most common injuries after a crash, but it’s often misunderstood or underestimated.

Whiplash is a soft tissue injury that occurs when the head is suddenly jerked backward and then forward, like the cracking of a whip, which is where the name comes from. That rapid motion strains the muscles, ligaments, and joints in your neck, even at low speeds.

At Cavanaugh Chiropractic in Lafayette, we see whiplash cases all the time. Just because it’s common doesn’t mean it’s no big deal, left untreated, it can affect your mobility and lead to chronic issues. The good news is we can help.
