Headaches

Not every headache starts in your head. Many begin with tension and misalignment in the neck, which is why so many people never find lasting relief. We help Acadiana patients get to the real source of their headaches.

01Understanding the injury

Where your headaches really begin.

Headaches come in many forms, and it’s easy to treat them as something to simply push through with another pill. But a large share of recurring headaches don’t originate in the head at all, they start in the neck, where tight muscles, irritated joints, and poor posture refer pain up into the skull.

These are often called cervicogenic, or neck-related, headaches. Tension that builds from long hours at a screen, stress, or an old neck injury can trigger the pattern again and again. Other headaches tie in to sinus and allergy pressure or to the nervous system’s response to strain.

At Cavanaugh Chiropractic in Lafayette, we look for what’s actually setting your headaches off rather than masking them. When the source is in the neck and upper spine, addressing it directly is often what finally breaks the cycle.

02Common injuries

Common causes of recurring headaches.

When headaches keep coming back, the trigger is often in the neck and upper spine. These are the conditions we most often trace them back to:

Cervicogenic Headache
Autonomic Dysfunction Headache
Allergy Headache
Cervical Spondylosis
Whiplash
Sprain of Cervical Spine
Atlantoaxial Joint Dysfunction
Headaches aren't something to live with
If pain relievers are part of your weekly routine, the trigger probably hasn't been addressed. We look at the neck and upper spine to find out why they keep coming back.
03Our treatment approach

How we treat chronic headaches.

After a thorough evaluation, your care targets the source of your headaches and is paced to your recovery. It may draw from these proven approaches:
Spinal adjustments
Gentle corrections to the neck and upper spine that ease the joint irritation behind many headaches.
Soft tissue therapy
Hands-on work to release the tight neck and shoulder muscles that refer pain upward.
Modalities: e-stim & cold laser
Supportive therapies that calm muscle tension and reduce headache-triggering strain.
Therapeutic exercise
Strengthening and mobility work that supports the neck and improves posture.
Posture & ergonomics coaching
Practical changes to screen height and daily habits to reduce tension buildup.
