01Understanding the condition

What is cervical disc disorder?

Some of the most complex conditions we treat after a car crash involve the cervical spine, the neck. Cervical Disc Disorder with Radiculopathy is one of them. It’s a mouthful, but it describes something many people feel all too clearly: pain, weakness, or numbness that starts in the neck and travels down the arm like a live wire.

Your cervical spine is made up of seven small vertebrae stacked on top of one another, with discs in between that act like shock absorbers. A disc disorder means one of those discs has bulged or herniated, and radiculopathy means it’s pressing on a nearby nerve root, sending symptoms down the arm.

At Cavanaugh Chiropractic in Lafayette, we’ve seen how this condition disrupts work, sleep, and daily tasks. If you’re dealing with nerve-related symptoms in the neck, shoulder, or arm after a crash, we can help.
